5A 2-Speaker State Debate Results
At the 2022 5A-State Debate competition Salina South Debate took 3 teams. Originally, South planned to take 4 teams, but due to unexpected events, only 3 teams went.
During the general meeting before the state tournament it was announced that next years resolution will be; Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.
At the tournament sophomores Lillian Ardis and Nardacelia Garcia put an amazing effort, but did not break to out rounds. Junior Francisco Guardado and sophomore Soren Mannabach received a 4-2 record and broke to quarter-finals. The same went for senior Seth Carter and junior Ava Williamson. Unfortunately, both teams that broke to quarter-finals, dropped to the eventual state champions.
Now the team is preparing for the Forensics season and national qualifier tournaments.
Francisco Guardado is a second-year staff member of Tripodium at South High Salina. In school he is involved in National Honor Society, Debate, and Forensics.
Lillian Ardis is a senior in high school. They do debate, forensics, and work at Dillons and Martinellis. They enjoy reading current news.
