Girls Tennis, although undervalued, is an interesting and complex sport. Tennis is often overlooked for being boring or not fun to watch however it’s far from that, it’s a hardworking and intense sport that you have to work at to succeed.
“I like that it’s more your own skill rather than a team’s skill.” Kate Hull (26’) states.
Although teamwork is still important in tennis, Hull thinks that it is important to have your own independence in a sport.
“You have to be good at time management otherwise you’re screwed.” Says Maureen Addo (26’).
Following the question, ‘How do you balance school with school and work?’ Addo also states that you have to sort of bend the things you want to do around in order to keep both tennis and school balanced.
“It’s definitely hard to juggle at times between my full time job, tennis, and being a mom to my 7 year old with all of his activities, but it’s been worth it and something I look forward to each day!” Morris said.
Morris, the new head coach of the Salina South High Schools girl’s tennis team, has been enjoying her time with these girls so far.
“I’ve played tennis my whole life and won a state championship so coaching tennis has always been an interest of mine and it was easy to jump at this opportunity.” Morris said. She went even further detailing how she felt when she first started.
“I love coaching the SHS team because the girls were so welcoming to me and have been a blast to get to know and spend time with everyday!” Morris said.
“I love her! It’s different having a girl coach because she always pushes us to play and be the best version of ourselves.” Emily Salas (24’) said.
The girls on the team work well together, they clearly feel comfortable around each other and having a coach that cares about both the sport and the girls she coaches is an amazing attribute to have on the team.
