The start of the holidays is a welcomed break, and having the chances to celebrate the certain events that take place.
“Holidays can be stressful because you have to show that you are happy even though it can be draining since family somehow always gets along when there is a holiday coming up,” My’lynn Harris (‘26) said.
Having a family that only gets along near the holidays can cause added stress since at any other time all they do is fight. Holidays should be stress free but instead there are always financial problems among other things that can affect the holidays. Gift giving is not the only thing the holidays are about but it’s nice to be able to have the same amount of fun as everyone else with opening gifts.
Taking holiday photos can be a fun tradition so new add ons in the family can be a part of the holiday. Also having traditions like banking contests, holiday family feud and volunteering with family can get all of the family involved in a way.
“The most fun thing about the holidays is being able to see family and see those you have not seen in awhile,” Haley Billings (‘26) said.
Being able to see family every once in a while can be nice especially when there is only time for them to come down during the holidays only. Seeing distant family and getting to know more on how their life was ever since the last time they visited.
During these Holidays, everyone has certain traditions that their family does and usually it goes down the line of family members to have the same special celebration as their ancestors.
“A holiday tradition that my family partakes in is on every Christmas we make tamales,” Alondra Alvarado (‘25) said.
Treats are the next best during the different seasons. The treats that most people make are sugar cookies, white and chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallow rice krispies, roast pecans, muddy buddies, and homemade Chex mix.
“My most favorite holiday treat to make is Christmas sugar cookies because they taste really good,” Dominique Girard (‘24) said.
