High school is the time where people figure out what career pathway is best for them in the four years they are in high school. College is sometimes the best next step for starting adult life but it all depends on what career areas a student wants to pursue.
Going to a university has multiple opportunities to better yourself and better prepare for a student’s life going forward. Opportunities can range from getting to know more people or getting more involved with things that may have not been in high school. There are many colleges that are either inside or outside of Kansas to choose from.
“Yes, I do think that college will be a big change that I will have to get used to for sure, but I generally feel ready to take on college classes,” Lakin Soden (‘25) said.
There will be many opportunities in life but also many changes to get used to in the college part of life.
Going straight into the workforce is another option because it is an opportunity to earn more of a steady income and get experience outside in the real world before others. Saving money on education is one of the good parts about going straight to the workforce, because then there are decisions later on in life that the money could be used more for.
“I am going to do a gap year which can help me save up for college or also to figure out what career pathway I want to go down,” Katie Allen (‘26) said.
Doing a gap year can help students prepare themselves for what will come in college.
College gives people the chance to consider if students really want to go down a certain pathway.
“Going to college is important because a world of opportunities will be opened up for you,” Allyson Exline (‘24) said.
People may think differently on the importance of college, but it just depends on if the career requires a college education.
“Going to college is really important for me because that is like a step closer to my dream of being a talk show host and getting to be on reality television,” Kingston Montgomery (‘26) said.
Having a dream and sticking with it will show people how far that dream reality has actually gone in life.
