The Kansas Association for the Youth is a student organization centralized in leadership in the school and around the community. They plan on doing service projects that are community focused to build character building and leadership skills for the students.
Teacher Tobi Adams will be running the KAY club this year. Adams is planning many things for the club such as canned food drives, volunteering work for the students and other things such as mittens in the winter for the angel tree. Her goal for KAY club is to teach students to think about others and not just themselves.
The KAY club started at South High because of students.
“The student showed initiative and wanted to do good. It also really excited me to think that the student thought of me in the capacity that I would be able to take on this role,” said Adams.
The student led the approval from administration, they just needed a teacher to sponsor the club, and Adams stepped up to the role. For more information about the Kansas Association for the Youth you can visit the official website at www.kshsaa.org/Public/KAY/MissionStatement.cfm.
Besides the KAY club, Adams will also be running the coloring club this year. Although this club might seem simple, it can provide much more than just coloring pages. It is a way for students to express creativity and provide a warm environment for everyone. It is another way for the students to get involved in the school while giving them an outline or the opportunity to de-stress after a long school day. You can always miss a meeting and never actually miss anything. The coloring club is available to anyone, anytime of the year. You can always stop by her room to grab some coloring pages to take home.
