In recent years there has been a decrease in people wanting to see movies. With so many reboots, live action remakes, and unnecessary sequels, it has left people wanting something new. What better way to help encourage movie goers into theaters, then by allowing more books to become big motion pictures. There are millions of books out there, with unique plots and themes that never get the chance to have there stories expressed in a different way.
”I really like Truly Devious,” Leo Vidales (’26) said. “I love the school aesthetic and how they have to find a new murderer.”

‘Truly Devious’, is a young adult novel, that follows Stevie Bell a young true crime enthusiast. During her time at the Ellingham Academy she attempts to uncover the true, behind the famous unsolved “Truly Devious,” murders. Her attempts to solve the case are put on pause as a new string of murders start to unravel at the school.
A book like ‘Truly Devious’ would make a great premise for a movie, because of it interesting plot and unique aesthetic.
“Gregor the Overlander, its a great fantasy book,” library assistant Tyler Hernandez said. “I’ve read it multiply times but its still a good read.”
‘Gregor the Overlander’ is a fantasy based novel written by Suzanne Collins. The novel follows 11-year-old Gregor and his younger sister Boots, after stumbling on a basement vent that transport them to a world of giant creatures and humans on the break of war.
This type of story would make a incredible movie because of its fun and whimsical plot. It would also be able to give unique visuals to this world of gigantic creatures and humans, that most movie goers would fine extremely interesting.
“Scythe, is a really good book and I think that it would be really well adapted,” Jasper Carter (’26) said.
‘Scythe’ is a dystopian novel, that follows Citra and Rowan throw a world were death has been conquered by humanity and now the only means of death on the planet is the Scythe. A group of individuals tasked with making sure the earth population stays in balance Now Citra and Rowan must join the Scythe to save themself from death.
Not only would ‘Scythe’ make an incredible movie because of its ideas of immortality and how our lives would be completely changed from the rise of eternal life. This book would also allow for thought providing experience for all movie goers.
So many book go unnoticed for decades leaving there stories to be forgotten. But with the decline in movie goers, it is time for more production company to give more books a chance at the big screen.
