Renegades is a young adult/ science fiction story that takes place in Gathon City, a once beautiful metropolis of towering skyscrapers now reduced to rubble and destruction after years of crime. Nova Antino, a member of the group known as the Anarchists, joins the Renegades undercover in order to destroy their reputation from the inside. But during her time with the Renegades, she meets Adrain Everhart, a member of the Renegades that causes her to question her loyalty for the Anarchists’ cause.
This book is able to bring a common trope, enemies to lovers and shape it into something unique, bringing a mixture of dystopian and science fiction elements, that creates a story that is not only exciting and action packed, but also a story that is full of romance and suspense. Renegades was also able to bring two different characters, Adrain and Nova, and show how even though they have different views on the Renegades and the state of Gathon City, they are still able to find support in each other and even able to fall in love.
This story can also keep any reader at the edge of their seat, with its numerous twists and misdirections. It does an incredible job at driving the readers to expect one thing and then changing that aspect completely with a big reveal.
The character development is also amazing throughout the whole book. As in the story you can see Nova go from a loner and a full blown Anarchists, who only wanted to see the downfall of the Renegades. To someone who can accept help from others and connect her to the world and even cause her to question her own beliefs on the Renegades and the Anarchists. You can also see a similar change with Adrain Everhart, with the more time he spends with Nova he starts to agree with some of the Anarchist views on the Renegades and agree that in some way, they have become corrupt and have lost their original purpose.
I believe if you are interested in a book with a dystopian/science fiction feel with a hit of romance. Renegades is the best book for you, not only does it have an incredible plot but it also has memorable moments and great character development.
